More exciting highlights from ESSD 2026! Congratu More exciting highlights from ESSD 2026!

Congratulations to Dr. Bonnie Martin-Harris on receiving 2nd Place for Best Oral Presentation for her research, “How Severe Are They, and What’s Driving It? Population-Referenced Severity Norms and Component-Level Patient Profiling from 80,000 Standardized Swallowing Assessments”, co-authored with Dr. Alex Clain! 🏆

This work is the result of years of data contributions from MBSImP clinicians around the globe who share in this recognition.

Dr. Martin-Harris also co-presented a pre-conference course alongside Dr. Maggie-Lee Huckabee titled, “Think Swallow: Theoretical and Practical Application of Swallowing Skill Training”, highlighting the theoretical foundations and practical applications of swallowing skill training with focus on Respiratory Swallow Training (RST).

We are incredibly proud to celebrate these accomplishments and the continued contributions of our SCSC team to advancing dysphagia research, education, and evidence-based clinical practice! 👏🏼
🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Ankita Bhutada! 🎉 We are 🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Ankita Bhutada! 🎉

We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Bhutada on being named a 2026 Mentored Clinical Research Award recipient by the Parkinson Study Group (PSG), in association with the Parkinson’s Foundation!

Her proposed research, “Phenotype-Informed Respiratory-Swallow Training for Dysphagia in Parkinson’s Disease: A Feasibility Study,” explores a personalized approach to swallowing rehabilitation for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
We are incredibly proud of Dr. Bhutada and her continued dedication to advancing dysphagia research and evidence-based clinical care! 💜👏

Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved recognition!

We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Martin-Harris on being named a Fellow of the European Society for Swallowing Disorders (FESSD)!

This prestigious recognition honors her outstanding contributions to dysphagia assessment and care, particularly her development of the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP), which has helped advance standardized swallowing assessment worldwide. Her dedication to research, leadership, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration continues to make a lasting impact on the field of dysphagia.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Martin-Harris on this well-deserved honor! 💜👏

New publication! 📢✍🏼 Martin-Harris, B., Davidson, New publication! 📢✍🏼

Martin-Harris, B., Davidson, K., & McFarland, D. (2026). Respiratory–swallow training in head and neck cancer: Impact on swallowing safety and efficiency. Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1-11. https://doi.org/10.1044/2026_JSLHR-26-00075

This publication highlights respiratory-swallow training (RST) as a targeted approach to improving swallowing function in individuals with head and neck cancer.

The authors discuss how training optimal respiratory-swallow coordination may support swallowing safety and efficiency, emphasizing its potential as a mechanism-based intervention for dysphagia.

Congratulations to all authors! 💜
